Qurious Quirks - Entry

Go here to see the rules of this blogfest.

In a wood long ago abandoned by people, there sits a castle, a castle fit for hiding princesses. On the majestic door of the castle there lies a plague of white stone. Carved into it's smooth surface is this:
"He who can answer these four questions true
Shall be ruler of this castle as is his due"

How does your character fall asleep? Do they drink warm milk, lay on their side, their back? Pass out in drunken stupors?

Cassie doesn't allow herself to fall asleep until everyone else has. She lays on her back and listens until she hears four (now five) chests rising slowly with sleep, only then will she allow herself to drop off.

How does your character sit? Do they flip chairs around, have to prop their feet up, cross their legs?

It depends on where she is. If she's at home, she'll sit cross-legged on the floor or leaned forward on a bucket or with her back against a wall. If she's at a place where she's uncomfortable, she'll sit ridged and still.

What does your character do with their feet when standing? Do they tap 'em, cross 'em, scrape 'em against the ground?

Cassie is a runner and her feet are almost never still. She will methodically tap her toes in front, to the side, to the back. The only time they aren't bouncing about is when she's actually preparing to run.

Where does your character keep their hands when walking? Do they constantly touch their face, their hair? Do they cross their arms or simply leave them at their sides?

She swings her arms when she walks. She'll slap her thighs if she's in a good mood or strut around with fists if she isn't.

  1. Your linky thing is closed, just so you know, so now no one else can join in. Maybe that can be fixed?

I cheated and picked two characters.

    1. Eric: Stares at the ceiling and reminesces about his mistakes until he drifts of. Savvy: Curls up on her side, sighs, and falls asleep instantly.

    2. Eric: With his elbows on his knees, leaning forward. Savvy: With her legs swinging under her chair, like a child.

    3. Eric: Still and firm. Savvy: Bouncing on the balls of her feet because she's always excited about something.

    4. Eric: Usually his fists are clenched at his side because he's angry. Savvy: Usually fiddles with something because she has so much energy.

    This is fun!

  2. Hmmm...

    1. Grey is the same -- he stays up past everyone else, but because he likes the quiet. When he does sleep he stretches out flat on his back -- he's so tall he doesn't get to stretch out often. So he crosses his arms over his chest and kind of looks dead.

    2. Very still, hands on his knees, like he's about to jump back up.

    3. He kind of leans forward, like he's ready to spring at any second -- which he usually does.

    4. Crossed over his chest mostly. He's always subconsciously trying to take up less space because he's so tall and noticeable.

  3. Thanks so much for hosting by the way, I love blogfests that help me explore my characters a bit more.

    Name: Ida
    WIP: Hope's End

1: By the time Ida finishes work and drags herself upstairs to her room she's so exhausted she just falls into bed. Now and again without even getting out of her clothes.

2: Slouched. Years of hard work on the farm has left her with quite a curved back and work at the prison keeps her on her feet most of the day.

3: Slightly bouncing on her toes; always ready to run if she's needed.

4: With one hand always on her prison keys, both for practicality and a feeling of security.

  4. Interesting idea. Not really thought about those questions regarding my characters before. :O)

  5. Fun! I hadn't thought about these, and I can just see Ceil doing all of these things.

    1. Sleep comes easily for Ceil, so she usually just sprawls out and closes her eyes and quickly falls asleep.

    2. She sits with her back against the wall or slumped down when she doesn't care. When she's a bit more intrigued, she'll sit forward and cross her ankles.

    3. She doesn't do too much with her feet, but since she's up in the Arctic, she curls and uncurls her toes a lot to keep the blood flowing.

    4. When she's moody (as she becomes early in the book) she crosses her arms a lot. Normally she just lets them swing.

    Time to post my questions!

  6. I used to run and now after reading your post I want to start running again!

  7. Today's character: Tyler Jay

How does your character fall asleep?

Lying on his back, strumming his guitar. He'd be thinking, probably about his music, and about all the strange occurences that are suddenly manifesting in his and his close friends' lives. He would doze off; he's not the type to decide to go to bed because he's tired. He'd just end up there and inadvertantly fall asleep.

How does your character sit? Do they flip chairs around, have to prop their feet up, cross their legs?

Tyler doesn't sit; he lounges. But, if he had to sit in a public place, he'd have both feet on the ground and a hand spread over each thigh.

What does your character do with their feet when standing? Do they tap 'em, cross 'em, scrape 'em against the ground?

Nothing. They'd be firmly planted, hip distance apart.

Where does your character keep their hands when walking? Do they constantly touch their face, their hair? Do they cross their arms or simply leave them at their sides?

Tyler's hands would be in his pockets if they aren't strumming his guitar or groping his girlfriend, Kristina Knight.

  8. I posted my entry, but it's not really specifically related to physical quirks ;)

  9. I was too late catching on to this. Sounds fun though.

  10. 1. How does your character fall asleep? Do they drink warm milk, lay on their side, their back? Pass out in drunken stupors?
Edgar doesn't sleep easily, he has to be in total darkness and silence, on his side, and even then he struggles. Drunken stupors are a thing of the past for him. Nowadays he likes to stay mostly sober as punishment.
Ever sleeps anywhere, anytime. She's almost always comfortable.

    2. How does your character sit? Do they flip chairs around, have to prop their feet up, cross their legs?
Edgar usually sits on the edges of his chairs, unless he's got a glass of Scotch in hand - that makes him more relaxed.
Ever floats down into sitting positions. She can sit anywhere, anytime, and is always relaxed.

    3. What does your character do with their feet when standing? Do they tap 'em, cross 'em, scrape 'em against the ground?
Edgar tends to stand still, another act of self-discipline, but sometimes he's been known to tap his feet.
Ever just stands there, moving languidly with the crowds, oblivious to those around her. She's fluid.

    4. Where does your character keep their hands when walking?
Edgar tends to be a pocket-stuffer - his hands are in his pockets, or clenched into fists at his sides.
Ever's hands are often floating around her as she talks, putting people in mind of fluttering butterflies.
